The mission of the Australian
School
of Cairo (ASC) is to bring
Australian education to Egypt,
a simple formula that has proved popular elsewhere in the Middle
East, Asia and
beyond.
Three areas of excellence first concern us:
- superior English language development
- superior English language university entrance
results
- superior Arabic and Islamic education
Our community building will be in the context of
these objectives.
We intend
to accomplish this by attracting and keeping excellent Australian teachers.
We hope to achieve teacher compensation at the Australian scale and other incentives are in
place to find and then keep a core of superior Australian teachers.
The objective of superior English usage
will be serviced from the beginning. Preschool teachers shall be
certified
Australian teachers who are native speakers of English and, when
possible,
bilingual in Arabic. All our preschool teaching assistants will
similarly be
native speakers of Australian or other English.
Jeff Marck, ASC’s
Managing
Director, is a PhD linguist who was first involved in bilingual
education in
the 1970s. As a linguist he has seen what it takes to develop students
with
native-like English accents and Jo Hillman, ASC’s Director of Education, has a
special budget for allocating highly trained language specialists to work
with
each student’s accent from the earliest age.
