Board of Directors' Message
Australian School of Cairo (ASC)

Education is no doubt the best investment a parent can choose for his or her child. When Dr Marck first approached me in October 2007 with the idea of opening an Australian School in Cairo, I was extremely enthusiastic. The Australian education system is world-renowned and students of the Australian curricula have the added advantage of being well-equipped to continue their higher education in institutions everywhere around the world.

I couldn’t help but imagine the possibilities such an education being offered to students in Egypt could open.

I strongly believe that a good education is one that endeavours to teach students how to think and, especially, to always think for themselves.

This prepares them to continuously educate themselves throughout their lives and is one of the core principles of Australian education and one which we are committed to develop at ASC.

We are recruiting a highly professional teaching staff grounded in the core principles of the Australian educational system and we strongly believe in a ‘wholistic’ approach to educating the student, with the emphasis not just on the curriculum per se, but also on developing the skills and creativity for students to become contributing members of society.

The opening of the school in September 2009 comes at an important time for Egypt. The combination of rapid economic growth, growing investment (both local and international) and rapid globalisation places tough demands on new entrants to Egypt’s workforce. The increasingly vibrant Egyptian economy needs an equally vibrant and dedicated workforce. ASC, based on the core values of our curriculum, aims to serve in this regard.

I am delighted to be a part of this ambitious project of preparing a new generation of young people with the skills they need in the rapidly evolving world of today. I am also proud to be a contributor to this addition to Egyptian – Australian cooperation in the field of education.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Australian School in Cairo.
